Deadline: Monday, September 28, 2009 5pm
4Culture and King County’s Department of Natural Resources & Parks seek three multi-disciplinary artists/artist teams to design a series of original, site-specific art interventions that relate to existing wayfinding kiosks within the Regional Trail System (RTS).
These temporary projects will be inclusive of, but not limited to, two-dimensional visual artworks and/or prompts within the kiosks, corresponding sound element(s) accessible via listen4Culture (4Culture’s cell phone program) and/or the web, and auxiliary performance. All work will be expected to address sustainability with materials and processes, reflect the theme of “Your Big Backyard”, reveal the systemic nature of the trail network, and inspire participation among trail users. This might include revealing site histories, reflecting environmental stewardship efforts, or increasing the public’s sense of ownership and connection to the trail system.
This is an exciting opportunity for talented regional artists – emerging to established – working in performance, literary arts, sound or any two-dimensional media (painters, printmakers, photographers, etc.) to translate their practice into the public realm and expand their audience.
