News from a 2009 4Culture Individual Artist Projects Recipient

The food and writing project SLUG launches this week with an installation in Central Coop’s Madison Market on Capitol Hill (16th and Madison). Curated by local writer Bob Redmond, the project consists of inking haiku on paper bags. The haiku, written by Redmond and 8 other local writers, deals with food in all its varied spendor.

On Monday, August 24th, 7 of the 9 writers will present their work at the JewelBox Theater in Belltown. The event will also include a participatory “stamping party,” (haiku stamps and other materials provided), and jazz guitar from James Baumgart.

Participants in the project include: aka, Amy Baranski, Rachel Kessler, Amanda Mae, Sierra Nelson, Linden Ontjes, Arne Pihl, Michel Dylan Welch and Bob Redmond, who received support for this project from a 2009 4Culture Individual Artist Projects award.

Future plans for the project include additional installations in King County, and a chapbook printed on paper bag stock.
