Seeking cultural groups or individuals to propose use of community park
Proposals Due: September 30, 2009

The City invites artists, arts organizations, historical agencies, non-profit groups, community gardens, environmental groups, and other interested parties to propose ways they would use areas of Juel Park, located at 18815 NE 116th Street. Proposals should include an outline of proposed use, the public benefit, and an implementation plan.


Northwest Folklife
Call for Artists
Deadline: October 1, 2009

Soliciting ideas for a logo/branding design to launch a new series of recordings,
Northwest Roots & Branches, featuring innovative artists from the Pacific NW. Live from the 2009 Festival will be the first release of this series. Some of the musical traditions that will be featured include Mongolian Horsehead Fiddle, roots and reggae, French-Canadian kitchen party music, Jugband Hokum, 8 bit Chiptune, Indie Folk and new country twang. We are looking for images that express a sense of roots and home, and/or images of the Northwest’s innovative and diverse blending of culture. Designs must be simple and effective and convey a sense of timelessness.

City of Port Townsend
Call for Washington State Artists
Deadline: October 14, 2009

The City of Port Townsend seeks an individual artist or team of artists to create an art project within its refurbished downtown waterfront area. This revitalized waterfront area, scheduled for completion in 2010, stretches from the new Northwest Maritime Center at Point Hudson to Quincy Street. It will celebrate the intersection of the city’s historic and commercial cityscape with accessible seascape and includes a waterfront esplanade, visitor plaza, and tourism infrastructure improvements. Artistic enhancement of this space could take the form of a specific art project or it could also augment existing features or planned new additions or features.


Society for Photographic Education, Northwest Regional Chapter
Deadline: October 19, 2009 (postmark)

The Society is hosting a juried exhibition of both high school and college photographers’ work during the regional conference held in Seattle November 6-8, 2009. The two pools will be juried separately. Submission/entry details can be found on the SPE blog (above link.)


Pike Place Market
Deadline: October 21, 2009

The Pike Place Market is seeking professional artists who have the ability to develop an in-depth understanding of the history and character of the Market and to communicate this understanding through their chosen medium. It is anticipated the selected artist or team will develop and install 1 – 4 projects. The installation date for the artwork is expected to be in May 2010. Seattle Office of Arts & Cultural Affairs
2010 Neighborhood & Community Arts
Deadline: October 27, 2009

The Office of Arts & Cultural Affairs’ Neighborhood & Community Arts program helps Seattle’s neighborhood arts councils and community-based groups produce festivals and events that enhance the visibility of neighborhoods, promote cultural participation, celebrate diversity and build community through arts and culture. In 2009, the program provided funding to 37 organizations to support annual public festivals and events.


Jack Straw Productions
Artists Programs – Applications Now Available
Deadline: Friday, October 30, 2009

WRITERS PROGRAM
Twelve writers working in all forms and styles are selected by an invited curator. Participants create new work during the residency to be presented through live readings, recorded interviews, a published anthology, on their web site.

ARTIST SUPPORT PROGRAM
Up to eight artists/teams are awarded 20 hours of recording and production time with an engineer at Jack Straw Productions; an additional 10-12 artists/teams receive matching awards. The Artist Support Program is open to artists of all disciplines whose project proposals include sound as a major component.

NEW MEDIA GALLERY PROGRAM
The Jack Straw New Media Gallery is a unique venue in Seattle where artists from various disciplines can present works in which sound is an integral or exclusive element. This program enables artists to experiment with audio and to develop new skills and ideas in a supportive setting.

Northwest New Works Festival – Call for Performing Artists

Festival: June 2010

Sara Edwards, Communications 4Culture, says: Last fall, a few artist friends and I (including my esteemed 4Culture colleague Paige) applied for the OtB NW New Works Festival for a brand new project we ended up calling Sunday Service. In December we learned we had been accepted into the festival and we spent the next 6 months creating a 20 minute new work. It was a great experience. This festival is the perfect place to scare the pants of yourself and take the biggest performance risks you can. What would be your biggest risk? I encourage you to apply and find out.


Sound Transit
Temporary Public Art and Events
Deadline: on-going

Sound Transit’s University Link is the 3.15 mile extension of light rail from downtown Seattle to the University of Washington. Sound Transit is looking for ideas for community events or a temporary public art display during the different phases of construction. The first round of work at the site of the Capitol Hill Station has been finished. Sound Transit is in contact with the Capitol Hill Chamber and other community organizations to discuss various potential uses for the paved site while it awaits the next phase of construction. Anyone is free to submit an idea for temporary use of the Capitol Hill construction site.
