Center for Wooden Boats4Culture Announces 2009 Heritage Collections Care Recipients

Congratulations to the seventeen projects that received funding this year from the Heritage Collections Care program. A total of $52,500 was awarded to projects county-wide. In its second year, the program seeks to address a critical need for the conservation of local collections to help preserve King County historical artifacts. Priority is given to basic collections issues, institutional support, and creation/evaluation of organizational collections plans.

The projects funded through this year’s program address a wide range of collections care issues, including:

• Traditional cataloging projects for non-traditional collections, like the Northwest Railway Museum’s small objects collection (“small” meaning anything under one ton)
• Projects that preserve collected objects like the Burke Museum’s collection of artifacts from a turn-of-the 20th Century dump that illuminate lifestyles from NW history
• Funding for practical improvements to collections storage, such as new dock fenders for the Center for Wooden Boats’ in-the-water fleet of Blanchard Junior Knockabout Sailboats
