Three public artists who have completed successful water-related projects presented their work to the National WateReuse Conference on September 15th in Seattle. 4Culture was contacted by our partners in King County’s Water and Land Resources Division about contributing to the conference, a gathering of water management engineers and administrators. With Cath Brunner moderating, artists Dan Corson, Lorna Jordan and Buster Simpson shared past projects and talked about working with recycled and treated water, wastewater treatment facilities and watershed environments. It was exciting to show this group the role that artists’ thinking and design can play in creating meaningful places and experiences in water treatment sites. The roomful of decision makers, designing and managing facilities for this ever more important resource, asked questions about specific artworks, how to work with artists and the relationship of artists to engineers in public art projects, and solicited ideas from the panel for the 25th WateReuse Conference, taking place next fall in Washington, D.C.
