Are you an artist or company who makes work in unexpected places, with unconventional methods? Do you have a piece you’ve always wanted to create or perform in a park, shopping mall, public square, street corner or storefront window? If this sounds like you, apply for 4Culture’s 2009 SITE-SPECIFIC performance program:

We’d love to see more artists creating site specific work in Bellevue. Our arts program has some Special Projects funding available that we could combine with 4Culture’s.
Guides and App for Bellevue Special Projects: http://www.bellevuewa.gov/arts_special_projects_funding.htm (apps for 2010 due Oct. 2)
We’ve got a special interest in bringing site specific work to the Bel Red Area. Right now Bel Red is a collection of light industrial and strip-mail retail uses mostly. The City ok’d a plan this year that will upzone the area and accommodate light rail. AND they also identified it as an arts district. Right now, besides Pacific Northwest Ballet’s eastside school, the Francia Russell Center, there’s not much. Needless to say, the changes will take years. But we see no reason for the arts to wait!
I’m happy to talk to anyone interested in finding out more. We’re having a workshop in Bellevue City Hall on Sept. 14, 4:00 p.m. and I’m available by phone and email. Site Specific is a program that’s perfect for us. Sign up for Site Specific and Bellevue, too. Let’s talk!

This sounds like a great program!! Is it only open to Seattle Area artists? It wasn’t quite clear in the application guidelines.
Cheers,
Andrea

I am not sure if this is the kind of art you are looking for. My client is always looking to perform for people who need musical healing in some way. The site I have provided is his Jazz site ,but does have another site you can look at. The site address can be found on the jazz site. This band is already booked at the |Twistedcork Winebar at the Bellevue Hyatt forthelast 2yrs. If he can help please contact me and see what we can do.

Hi Andrea: It’s actually open to artists anywhere but they mostly tend to be Seattle based. Would that we had the funding to accommodate travel for artists to work here.
Hi JJ. If your client is already working in Bellevue he may want to see Mary Pat Byrne’s post above. Bellevue has been a great partner in this program and there is loads of opportunity there for artists to get involved.

Hi, Andrea & JJ – Bellevue Special Projects is open to any artist. The project, though, has to take place in Bellevue and should be accessible to the general public. Grant amounts available are modest – usually $500 – $2,000. Give me a call at 425-452-4105 if you want to talk about an idea. We’re excited about Site Specific ideas for Bel Red, and the program also contributes to projects anywhere in the city.
