Twenty emerging artists from Seattle have created site-specific installations for the shop windows of Madison Park. Works can be seen in 18 different stores fronts. This event curated by Bryan Ohno is focused on supporting community and emerging artists in our community by giving them unconventional exhibit space and bringing community together through the arts in a unique way. While the concept of putting Art in window displays isn’t new Bryan has curated a fantastic show of emerging artists from diverse fields that delivers. It is well worth the time to visit and take a stroll.

Artist lecture: Cheryll Leo-Gwin on “Exclusion”
Recommended by Doreen Mitchum, Arts 4Culture

Bellevue Arts Museum
Friday, November 13, 2009, 6:30 – 7:30

Thanks to a Special Projects Grant awarded by King County’s 4Culture, mixed media artist Cheryll Leo-Gwin creates an ongoing series of new work based on the effects of the US Chinese Exclusion Act of 1882 on women and their families in the US and China. While the legislation ended in 1945 and several acts thereafter perpetuated its intent, the effects continue to reverberate through modern times. Through her artwork, Cheryll will provide you with a glimpse into a long forgotten piece of history, and draw connections between Chinese and American women of the time and women of today. Underlying the beauty and humor in her work, the artist reveals a dark history and the effects of the exclusion act through current day in America and in China.
