Poet Laureate

The Washington State Arts Commission and Humanities Washington are seeking applications for Washington’s poet laureate, to promote poetry throughout the state for a two-year term. The poet laureate will engage in activities to encourage the writing, reading, and appreciation of poetry within the state, including but not limited to readings, workshops, lectures, and presentations. Qualified applicants must be current Washington State residents, and have published at least one full-length book of poetry.


Seattle International Film Festival
Early Bird Deadline: November 2, 2009

SIFF is seeking features, documentaries, short films, and animation for the 36th annual festival. With more than 550 screenings of 250 features and 125 shorts over 25 days, SIFF is the largest film festival in the United States. 2010 Festival dates are May 20 – June 13, 2010


The Howard Foundation
Deadline: November 9, 2009

Stipends of $25,000 will be awarded to support individuals working on specific writing projects for the academic year 2010-2011. The Howard Foundation awards a limited number of fellowships each year for independent projects in selected fields. The Foundation targets its support specifically to early mid-career individuals, those who have achieved recognition for at least one major project. Approximately ten fellowships will be awarded in April 2010 for 2010-2011 in the fields of Creative Writing in English: Fiction and Poetry.


The Bicentennial Swedish-American Exchange Fund
Deadline: November 15, 2009

Professional travel grant in the amount of SEK 30,000 in support of intensive research trips to Sweden of two to four weeks in length. Applicants should have well-developed projects within the prioritized fields of politics, public administration, working life, human environment, mass media, business and industry, education or culture. The grant is specifically intended for professional enrichment and is thus not applicable to work related to academic degrees, programs or conferences. Only U.S. citizens or permanent residents are eligible.


2009 Jean-Claude Reynal Scholarship
Deadline: November 15, 2009

A 10,000 euros grant awarded to a young artist for studies abroad. The Jean-Claude Reynal Foundation, under the auspices of the Foundation of France, in collaboration with the Fine Arts School of Bordeaux, offers an annual grant of 10,000 euros to enable a young artist, who works directly on paper, to travel to a country of his/her choice for a period of 6 months maximum.


Association of Performing Arts Presenters
Deadline: November 16, 2009

The Association of Performing Arts Presenters is accepting applications for the final round of 2009 funding for the Cultural Exchange Fund. This fund assists professionals within the arts presenting field to build partnerships and collaborations with their international counterparts by subsidizing travel. Current members of the Association are eligible to apply for grants of up to $2,000 to reimburse the cost of travel abroad to expand touring opportunities in the U.S. for deserving international work, and support long-term development projects, residencies, or commissions.


The Puffin Foundation Ltd

The Puffin Foundation makes grants that encourage emerging artists in the fields of art, film, music, theater, photography, and public interest whose works due to their genre and/or social philosophy might have difficulty being aired. Average grants are: $1,000.00 – $2,500.00
