I was thrilled to receive an email today announcing that out of 284 nominees, Seattle-based artist team, Benjamin Drummond and Sara Joy Steele are the recipients of the inaugural $10,000 Grant For Change from Nau for their project, Facing Climate Change. A long-term documentary project, Facing Climate Change, sponsored by Blue Earth (a 4Culture Sustained Support recipient), tells the story of global change through local people.

Who funded this award you ask? That would be Nau, a small clothing company based in Portland, Oregon. Out of the kindness of their hearts and perhaps for a little good press, Nau started the Grant for Change program. From July 7th to August 31st Nau invited the public to nominate individuals or small teams for this $10,000, project-based award. Criteria for Nau’s top five finalists included a demonstration of the collective spirit of change; the project’s apparent need for a fiscal boost; and the breadth of impact the individuals have on community.
Benjamin Drummond and Sara Joy Steele’s have another multi-media project you might also be interested in. It’s called the Sustainable Prisons Project, which connects prisons with nature. Check out their multi-media work and you’ll see why Nau honored them with this great new award.
