The Cherdonna & Lou Show
Recommended by Willow Fox, Public Art 4Culture
Friday, November 6, 2009, 9pm – Century Ballroom
“Local dancers Jody Kuehner and Ricki Mason have built a tender, high-concept, intentionally awkward cabaret about celebrities, celebrity impersonators, and a queer/punk/DIY aesthetic. ‘Cabaret people will think it’s too modern-dance and modern dancers will think it’s too cabaret-y,’ Kuehner says. Cherdonna and Lou do live in a narrow no-man’s-land between the two. (And no-woman’s, either: for Cherdonna and Lou, gender exists to be bent.) Kuehner does a weird downward-facing dog dance to interview clips from Madonna. Both perform as Sonny and Cher, except Sonny is a marionette totally controlled by Cher. They strip and their pasties are big, buggy eyes staring back at us. The Cherdonna and Lou Show is a scattered, glittery, mostly entertaining mess.” (Brendan Kiley in The Stranger)

PARAMPARA
Recommended by Willow Fox, Public Art 4Culture
Saturday November 7, 2009, 5 – 8 pm – Rose Hill Jr High School Auditorium
PARMAPARA… a word that exemplifies succession, tradition, and knowledge. Guru Shishya Parampara is an ancient Indian tradition whereby the guru (teacher) passes on his/her knowledge to the shishya (disciple) through years of practice, hardwork, dedication and commitment. “Parampara” is Pratidhwani’s attempt at celebrating the musical guru-shishya Parampara in Seattle. Three masters and their disciples take center stage to showcase art and its transference.

Recommended by Eric Taylor, Heritage 4Culture

Friday, November 13, 2009, 7pm – Chief Kanim Middle School
Book-It Repertory Theatre, 4Culture’s Heritage and Site-Specific performance divisions partner to present a Book-It Special Edition of Two Wheels North. Vic McDaniel and Ray Francisco, fresh high school graduates, set out on their second-hand bicycles from Santa Rosa, California in August of 1909 to take on the challenge of cycling from their home to Seattle for the Alaska Yukon Pacific Exposition. They pedal, push, and walk a thousand miles of primitive roads for 54 days, and encounter nearly every imaginable natural, mechanical, and human challenge on their one-speed bikes.
