The United Artists of Georgetown (UAG)

Seeking interesting talent acts to showcase in the upcoming Georgetown Winter Art Celebration on Saturday, January 30, 2010. The event will be a Georgetown-centric celebration of arts & performance of all forms as well as being a benefit for our fine neighbors at
the School of Acrobatics & New Circus Arts (SANCA). Are you great at making animal balloons? Can you Yodel? Perhaps you can ride a

The Center for Fine Art Photography

Fifteen photographers will be chosen to display their twelve-image portfolio in The Center for Fine Art Photography’s Portfolio ShowCase Volume 4: Book and Online Exhibition. The show will be featured on the Center’s web site at www.c4fap.org on March 1, 2010 and will remain online for the next two years.

Gallery 110
Deadline: January 6, 2009

Gallery 110, an artist run gallery which supports emerging artists, has issued a call for new members. The gallery is dedicated to the presentation of high quality and challenging visual art and to the development and promotion of artists’ careers. Collectively, members share in the work of the gallery and have the opportunity to build on or share their skills in marketing, exhibition management and installation, development and arts event coordination.

SOIL

SOIL is now accepting proposals for shows. Founded in 1995, SOIL is a not-for-profit, artist run gallery established, supported and operated by local artists. SOIL exists as an alternative venue for artists to exhibit, develop, and advance their work, and is committed to exhibiting and celebrating art of diverse media and content. (SOIL will also soon put a call out for new members. Check Soil’s website for new membership applications. Deadline for membership applications will be January 16,2010.)

ArtXchange Gallery
Deadline: January 13, 2010

ArtXchange Gallery is accepting submissions for a March/April 2010 group show to celebrate the rich history and diverse culture of Hispanic/Latino Americans in the Pacific Northwest. The exhibition will run for two months. The opening and art reception will be held during the Pioneer Square First Thursday Artwalk on March 4, 2010, and a second reception will be held during the First Thursday Artwalk on April 1, 2010.

Making Things, Making Things Better, Making Things Worse

Portland State University Art and Social Practice program is calling for contributions to a 2010 conference, “Open Engagement: Making Things, Making Things Better, Making Things Worse.” “Open Engagement” is a free conference, May 14-17, 2010, in Portland, Oregon. It will examine “art as service, as social space, as activism, as interactions and as relationships, and tackle subject matter ranging from urban planning to alternative pedagogy, play, fiction, sustainability, political conflict and the social role of the artist.”

Kundiman and Alice James Books
Deadline: January 15, 2010

Kundiman and Alice James Books will be accepting submissions of poetry manuscripts for The Kundiman Poetry Prize. The Kundiman Poetry Prize welcomes submissions from emerging as well as established Asian American poets. Entrants must reside in the United States. The winner receives $2000, book publication and a feature reading.

City of Seattle
Deadline: January 18, 2010

The City of Seattle, through its Seattle Center Department, invites proposals to temporarily activate all or some portion of 68,000 square feet of flat, paved outdoor space to be vacated by the Fun Forest, north of the Seattle Center Monorail station, for all or some portion of the time period between May 2010 and December 31, 2011. Attractions, activities and events that will enliven the space are envisioned as ranging from single day to seasonal or even longer duration activities/events.

SALON VIDEO ART PRIZE – 2010, London
Deadline: January 23, 2010

40-50 artists working in video and video installation will be selected for a unique video ‘Salon’ exhibition taking place at the Matt Roberts Arts Project Space on Vyner Street, in East London. The exhibition will open on Thursday 4th March, 2010 and is expected to receive over 1000 visitors, including established artists, art critics and curators. There is a selectors’ prize of £800(GBP) for an exhibitor picked out for special attention by the selection panel.

Socrates Sculpture Park
Deadline: January 25, 2010

The 2010 Spring Exhibition, Emerging Artist Fellowship Program and Open Space opportunities are now available. Socrates Sculpture Park is the only site in the New York Metropolitan area specifically dedicated to providing artists with opportunities to create and exhibit large-scale work in a unique environment that encourages strong interaction between artists, artworks and the public.

Scottish Arts Council Visual Arts Residency at Cove Park
Deadline: January 29, 2010

In 2010 Cove Park will offer one three-month Scottish Arts Council (SAC) Visual Arts Residency. The residency will take place between 3 May and 30 July 2010 and national and international visual artists are welcome to apply. The residency provides the time and support for an artist to focus exclusively on their own practice and ideas.

Charles Pick Fellowship
Deadline: January 31, 2010

The Fellowship seeks to give support to the work of a new and, as yet, unpublished writer of fictional or non-fictional prose. Its purpose is to give promising writers time to devote to the development of his/her talents. The Fellowship will be for six months, starting on 1 September 2010. The award is £10,000. Writers can be of any age and any nationality.

Rakow Grant for Glass Research
Deadline: February 1, 2010

The Corning Museum of Glass sponsors a program which makes available one or more annual grants totaling up to $10,000. These are made possible through the generosity of the late Dr. and Mrs. Leonard S. Rakow, Fellows, friends, and benefactors of the Museum. Grants may be used to cover travel, living expenses, or other expenditures necessary to conduct the research or to publish it.

American Institute for Conservation of Historic and Artistic Works
Deadline: February 15, 2010

The Foundation of the American Institute for Conservation of Historic and Artistic Works (FAIC) offers small grants to support the presentation of public lectures to help advance public awareness of conservation. The awards, of up to $500, may be used to help defray lecturer travel costs, honoraria, site fees, and publicity costs.

International Conservation Photography Awards
Deadline: February 28, 2010

The International Conservation Photography Awards (ICP Awards), a biennial juried photo competition, will include an online exhibit, a 3-month museum gallery exhibit at the prestigious Burke Museum of Natural History and Culture in Seattle, Washington, publication in a national photography magazine and other printed communications, and a slide show for use in community outreach and global on-line entertainment/education.
