Artist Gene Gentry McMahon created multiple artworks for the elevator lobbies in the Chinook Building, and with the help of staff completed their installation in mid-May. 13 Visionaries celebrates thirteen citizens who have made significant contributions to the life of King County. McMahon’s bold and sensitive portraits of community activists, spiritual, political and community leaders, an author, and the city of Tolt assist in orientation within the building and provide biographical information. McMahon worked closely with her fabricators Shane Lowe and Kelly Lowe (flyLo) who crafted the steel cases, and Leslie Hoge, graphic designer. The mixed media on paper portraits, in black and white with highlights of red, work perfectly with the natural interior finishes of the elevator lobbies. McMahon’s artwork joins permanent artworks by Anna Valentina Murch and Glenn Rudolph, as well as a number of portable pieces, to complete the public artwork for the Chinook Building. A slideshow of the individual artworks may be seen on Public Art’s Tumblr blog.
