Identified by the local heritage community as one of 4Culture’s most essential programs, Heritage Sustained Support provides annual operating funds to organizations that collect, exhibit, interpret, preserve, or protect resources relating to the histories of people and places in King County. Of the forty-one organizations that applied to this year’s program, all were awarded funding. Total support for recipients representing all nine King County Council Districts is $330,000 annually for 2011 and 2012.

In addition to operating support, several organizations were awarded registration in the American Association for State and Local History’s Standards and Excellence Program (StEPs), a self-assessment tool to help small and mid-sized historical organizations identify and document strengths and areas needing improvement.
