This summer, a park becomes avant garde.

Once again, the ARTSparks 2011 summer program will activate Occidental Square Park in Pioneer Square by turning the park into an experimental art gallery.

From the sky and trees above to the ground below, ten installations, happenings, and performances will transcend Occidental Square Park’s function as park space and infuse Pioneer Square with creativity and art. This year’s program will delve into the history of Seattle and Pioneer Square while exploring the concept of public space. All works will bring a sense of whimsy and imagination to this downtown urban setting.

ARTSparks 2011 is a FREE PROGRAM for all ages which kicks off with Todd Jannausch’s Gallery(206) on June 3rd for First Thursday. Works will continue to be featured all summer and through October in Occidental Square Park, showcasing pieces by established King County artists like Celeste Cooning, Susanne Tidwell and NKO, as well as younger artists like LSq and others.

ARTSparks is a collaboration between the Site Specific program of 4Culture, Seattle Parks and Recreation, and the Seattle Office of Arts & Cultural Affairs.  ARTSparks is  on Twitter (@artsparkssea) and Facebook (ARTSparks Seattle).
