This summer, our award-winning 4CTV team made a special trip to record the sights and sounds and shed light on how you, too can enjoy the magic of Hawaii right here in the Emerald City.

The first in a series of 4CTV shows covering the 3-themed Destination Heritage guides.

Puget Sound history is MARITIME history. Waterborne transportation was the primary mode of travel in Western Washington well into the 20th century. Forests of fir and cedar yielded the planks and timbers needed for canoes and ships of every size and purpose. Along the shores and waterways of King County, old lighthouses and wharves, bridges and locks, and a fleet of nationally significant heritage ships tell the story of a maritime past. Today, dedicated organizations continue to preserve the wooden boat legacy of Puget Sound.

4CTV is excited to debut the first program in a 3-part series of documentaries focusing on the Destination Heritage travel guides - Maritime, Agriculture and Industry. The first program showcases the maritime groups at South Lake Union, including the Center for Wooden Boats (CWB), NW Seaport and the Virginia V. In interviews, Executive Director, Betsy Davis and Dick Wagner, Founding Director, of the CWB relate the history of maritime in our region and the how organizations are working hard to keep that history alive and relevant. The Snoqualmie Depot is on the National Register of Historic Places and the King County/Snoqualmie Landmarks Register and is the centerpiece of the City of Snoqualmie’s Historic District. It’s collection of railway equipment – over 70 large items – is one of the most significant in the United States and is representative of Northwest railroading.
Check out the newest 4CTV video documenting the 2009 Ocean-to-Ocean Endurance Run. As chronicled in Jim’s monthly letter from the director in July,” 54 vintage Model T’s set off from White Plains NY in June, driving west along nearly 4,000 miles, to reach Seattle in celebration of the 1909 A-Y-P Centennial. Several 4Culture staff (including myself) made the trip up to Snoqualmie Pass to welcome them the first night they arrived in King County. The next day, we were thrilled to be joined by Doreen, Vivian and the rest of the 4CTV team as they documented the Model T caravan’s scenic trip along one of the county’s oldest highways.

The 42-minute show introduces the cars and drivers at Snoqualmie Pass, then follows the Ts down the switchbacks of the Sunset Highway and along old wagon road (1867-1915) to North Bend. There the Model Ts stopped for a salmon bake lunch at Meadowbrook Farm and were met by hundreds of local fans! The Ts continued on to Issaquah to prepare for the final leg of the rally. On July 12th, 2009 a large crowd braved a downpour to see the Model Ts cross the finish line at the University of Washington’s Drumheller fountain.

Take part in re-living this historic journey, by clicking here to play the entire video. This edition features The AJC Seattle Jewish Film Festival, now in its 14th year. The festival is the largest Jewish event in the Pacific NW and the 5th largest of its kind in the US. Last spring, the festival chose the theme GO GREEN! – Sustaining Community & Global Identity Through Film & Promoting Energy Independence, and artfully taught how “going green” is a core Jewish value through selected eco films, a ground-breaking eco art exhibit, a showroom of electric and biodiesel cars and culminating Closing Day “Green Faith/Faithfully” Panel of green artists, non-profits, religious leaders and eco advocates. Meet the people behind this event and sample some of the highlighted films.
