The deadline to apply is May 26, 2010 (5 p.m. PST) and application guidelines are currently available.

Selected artists will work with the e4c program manager to adapt selected work for optimal presentation. e4c utilizes software with a timeline interface, which is distributed through a network to the display monitors and speakers. The selected artists will also work with the e4c program manager to create promotional materials. Each selected artist will receive a modest honorarium to help defray expenses. The artists retain all rights of the works submitted.

Spotlight on an Individual Artist Projects Recipient

The West Hylebos Wetlands in Federal Way are considered by many to be a natural and cultural gem of the region. Captivated by this site and the efforts to preserve it, Federal Way artist Mary Longhurst created a documentary film entitled, The Hylebos: Discovering a Hidden Jewel.

This film, supported in part through a 4Culture Individual Artist Projects award, conveys the vision of the late Ilene Marckx, whose worked formed the foundation, Friends of the Hylebos. The Friends of the Hylebos has been working with the community to protect and restore streams, wetlands, forests and open space in the Hylebos watershed since 1983.

Mary Longhurst released her film on February 6th during a co-sponsored gathering by the Friends of the Hylebos and the Historical Society of Federal Way. Community leaders praised the film which draws attention to this hidden jewel.
Click here to view the embedded video.

Twenty emerging artists from Seattle have created site-specific installations for the shop windows of Madison Park. Works can be seen in 18 different stores fronts. This event curated by Bryan Ohno is focused on supporting community and emerging artists in our community by giving them unconventional exhibit space and bringing community together through the arts in a unique way. While the concept of putting Art in window displays isn’t new Bryan has curated a fantastic show of emerging artists from diverse fields that delivers. It is well worth the time to visit and take a stroll.

Thanks to a Special Projects Grant awarded by King County’s 4Culture, mixed media artist Cheryll Leo-Gwin creates an ongoing series of new work based on the effects of the US Chinese Exclusion Act of 1882 on women and their families in the US and China. While the legislation ended in 1945 and several acts thereafter perpetuated its intent, the effects continue to reverberate through modern times. Through her artwork, Cheryll will provide you with a glimpse into a long forgotten piece of history, and draw connections between Chinese and American women of the time and women of today. Underlying the beauty and humor in her work, the artist reveals a dark history and the effects of the exclusion act through current day in America and in China.
